%X Objective. Fibromyalgia (FM) is achronic syndrome characterised bywidespread musculoskeletal pain associatedwith other symptoms, includingpsychological distress. While negativemood (anxiety, depression, and anger)has been widely explored in FM, fewstudies have investigated emotional dysregulation.Our purpose was to evaluateproblems in the processes of emotionalregulation and to explore their influenceon the severity of pain and disability.Methods. Emotional regulations, anxiety,depression, anger, pain and disabilitywere evaluated in 47 FM patientsand 47 healthy subjects. Regressionanalyses were performed to evaluatethe role that emotional regulation processeshave on pain severity and disabilityof FM patients.Results. The results showed that althoughFM patients do not differ interms of the attention paid to their emotionalstates, FM patients had greaterdifficulties in the emotional regulationprocess. In addition, emotional rejectionand interference are two variablesthat influence the pain severity and disability.Conclusion. FM patients need to betrained in strategies for regulating theiremotions, in order to achieve a reductionin negative mood states, as well astheir impact in pain and disability.
