AB Desde finales del siglo XVIII, la Monarquía y la Iglesia dejaron de ser los principales protectores de las bellas artes; un espacio ocupado cada vez más por las instituciones estatales durante el reinado de Isabel II. En este cambio de modelo se abrieron muchos debates sobre la naturaleza de los bienes nacionales, la separación entre el patrimonio real y el nacional o el papel de las instituciones gubernamentales en la protección de los artistas. Cuestiones contestadas mediante políticas culturales que dieron diversos frutos. El objeto de estas páginas es adentrarnos en esos debates artísticos, concretamente a partir de dos proyectos museísticos —el Real Museo del Prado y el Museo Nacional de la Trinidad—, y analizar los mensajes políticos que se desprendían de su formación, evolución y organización.
AB After  the  end  of  the  eighteenth  century,  the  Monarchy  and  the  Church  ceased  to  be  the  main  protectors  of  the  Fine  Arts,  a  space  increasingly occupied by state institutions during the reign of Elizabeth II. This change of model marked the beginning of many debates: on the nature of national heritage, the separation between royal and national assets, and the role of governmental institutions in the protection of the artists. These questions were answered through cultural policies that bore different kinds of fruit. This article seeks to explore these artistic debates, specifically through two museum projects — the Prado Museum and the Trinidad Museum — and to analyze the political messages that emerged from their formation, evolution and organization.
