RT Journal Article T1 Neoproterozoic A-type magmatism in the Western SierrasPampeanas (Argentina): evidence for Rodinia break-up alonga proto-Iapetus rift? A1 Baldo, Edgardo G. A1 Casquet, César A1 Pankhurst, R.J. A1 Galindo Francisco, Mª del Carmen A1 Rapela, Carlos W. A1 Fanning, C.M. A1 Dahlquist, Juan A. A1 Murra, Juan Alberto AB A-type orthogneisses of mid Neoproterozoic age (774 ± 6 Ma,U-Pb SHRIMP zircon age), are reported for the first time fromthe Grenvillian basement of the Western Sierras Pampeanas inArgentina. These anorogenic meta-igneous rocks represent thelatest event of Rodinia break-up so far recognized in Grenvillianbasement exposures across Andean South America. Moreover, they compare well with A-type granitoids and volcanic rocksalong the Appalachian margin of Laurentia (Blue Ridge), thusadding to former evidence that the Western Sierras PampeanasGrenvillian basement was left on the conjugate rifted margin ofeastern Laurentia during Rodinia break-up and the consequentopening of the Iapetus ocean.
