AB La presente tesis doctoral es un análisis de la presencia en la prensa española del Instituto Oftálmico Nacional (IO) desde su fundación hasta la Guerra Civil española. Se pretende subrayar la importancia y el carácter pionero del Instituto en el campo de la Oftalmología española, además de enfatizar las vicisitudes por las que atravesó la institución médico-sanitaria y social en sus inicios, así como en la contienda. Asimismo, consideramos que con este trabajo contribuimos a exponer la historia de una institución tan importante como relativamente desconocida fuera del ámbito oftalmológico en nuestro país...
AB The present doctoral dissertation is an analysis of the presence in the Spanish press of the National Ophthalmic Institute since its foundation until the Spanish Civil War. The aim is to highlight the importance and pioneering character of the Institute in the field of Spanish Ophthalmology, as well as to emphasize the vicissitudes that the medical-health and social institution went through in its beginnings, as well as in the struggle. We also believe that with this work we contribute to expose the history of an institution as important as relatively unknown outside the ophthalmological field in our country...
