AB El paradigma habitual de descripción del cambio cultural suele ser capaz (en primer lugar) de señalar qué es un cambio cultural, esto es, los rasgos que permiten distinguir cuándo en un curso de tiempo detectamos una transformación. La capacidad de análisis existente en diversas disciplinas de las ciencias sociales es también suficiente para comprender históricamente (en segundo lugar) qué cambió y qué no desde un momento x a un momento y, mediados por un cambio comprensible teleológicamente por el destino de la modificación. Incluso (en tercer lugar), hay teorías y métodos desarrollados para comprender las probabilidades de cambios culturales en una u otra dirección, dado ciertos rasgos económicos y religiosos, por ejemplo. Sin embargo, es convicción de esta investigación la existencia de una necesidad teórica diferente a la provista por este paradigma, una necesidad que conduzca hacia la comprensión del momento mismo de la transformación pues no sabemos qué es una transformación en tanto intersticio, es decir, como momento entre dos momentos.
