AB El objetivo de este artículo es preguntarnos si en la Edad Media se dio una relación entre mujeres y lo que hoy entendemos por ecología o preocupación medioambiental, y si ello tuvo plasmación en los textos y en el arte. En la primera parte, plantearemos una posible definición de ecología y si esta pudo existir en la Edad Media. En la segunda, veremos si es posible relacionar dicho tema con la perspectiva de género. En la tercera, que será la más extensa de todas, analizaremos qué fenómenos, de entre todos los posibles, consideraremos en nuestro estudio: fundamentalmente la calidad del aire y del agua, la deforestación, la aclimatación de especies botánicas, el desarrollo de los huertos urbanos y el consumo de productos de proximidad. Para ello, nos detendremos en la información que sobre estos procesos pudieran brindarnos los textos escritos y las obras de arte. Finalmente, intentaremos establecer unas conclusiones y contestar positiva o negativamente a la pregunta formulada al inicio.
AB The aim of this article and research question is: Was there an interaction between medieval women and what is currently known as ecology (or environmental protection)? And did it have an impact on written sources and works of arts? To seek this, firstly, it is necessary to give a definition of ecology and to state its understanding in the Middle Ages. Secondly, a possible link between this topic and gender perspective will be established. Thirdly, these interactions will be applied to several study cases: water and air quality, deforestation, acclimatation of botanic species, urban horticulture gardens, and local products consumption. Evidence of these interactions, which will act as research sources for this paper, are taken from medieval written documents and works of art. Finally, some conclusions will be presented answering the research question: Was there a link betweenwomen and ecology in the Middle Ages?
