RT Journal Article T1 La Frigia de Estrabón: selección de datos en la «Geografía» A1 De Hoz García Bellido, María Paz AB ABSTRACT: Strabo’s description of Phrygia constitutes an optimal example of the key interests, methodology, and aim informing his «Geography». In spite of Phrygia being a significantly large country in the heart of Asia Minor, with a remarkable history – especially during its time under Phrygian domination and part of the Achaemenid ruling –, and despite this history being recorded by Greek sources, Strabo manifests a merely geographical interest for the most part of the territory. His aim is to define Phrygia’s borders with other countries and to situate its main geographical landmarks and urban centres. It is only when describing the few Phrygian cities that already had some economic and political interest for the Romans that he pays attention to humanistic and historical geography. PB Leo S.
