RT Book, Section T1 Events y New Music A1 Riviere Ríos, Henar A2 Stegmann, Petra AB This article offers the first comprehensive reconstruction of Dick Higgins’s and Alison Knowles’s first concert in Madrid, organized and co-performed by Zaj artists Juan Hidalgo, Walter Marchetti, and Tomás Marco in 1966 under Franco’s dictatorship. Drawing on research from major archives—including the Jean Brown Papers (The Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles) and Archive Sohm (Staatsgalerie Stuttgart)—as well as interviews with some of its key performers, this paper reconstructs the evening that culminated Knowles’s and Higgins’s European tour.
