T1 The diplomacy of the coronelias. the case of great britain.

AB Desde el final de las guerras napoleónicas las monarquías europeas mostraron un especial interés en que sus soberanos pudieran relacionarse de forma personal a través de la concesión de honores, pero no ya las tradicionales órdenes y condecoraciones, sino de forma más concreta recibiendo el mando honorífico de un regimiento del ejército de otro soberano, que conllevaba el uso de su uniforme y que el regimiento recibiera visitas, regalos, banderas e incluso el nombre del monarca nombrado como su coronel. Esta diplomacia paralela fue especialmente intensa en Austria, Rusia y Prusia y se fue extendiendo poco a poco al resto de monarquías del continente, pero los británicos siempre fueron muy reacios a conceder este tipo de concesiones hasta el final del reinado de la Reina Victoria, siendo desde entonces bastante restrictivos a este respecto, lo que confirió a sus nombramientos un alto prestigio que deseaban el resto de los monarcas, por lo cual vistieron profusamente esos uniformes, como veremos a lo largo de este trabajo
