AB RESUMEN: El investigador Joseph Farrell ha definido la pasada centuria como “el siglo virgiliano”, debido a la centralidad que alcanzó el poeta mantuano en los estudios clásicos. En este artículo pretendemos hacer un recorrido general por algunos de los intérpretes de la «Eneida» en el siglo XX para mostrar las razones que pueden justificar el diagnóstico propuesto por Farrell. Nuestra conclusión nos llevará a establecer una estrecha relación entre el prestigio académico de Virgilio en el siglo XX y el auge de ciertas corrientes de crítica literaria que se impusieron simultáneamente.
AB ABSTRACT: The scholar Joseph Farrell defined the past century as “the Virgilian century”, due to the notability that the poet from Mantua achieved in Classical Studies. This paper undertakes an overview of some of the interpreters of the «Aeneid» in the 20th century to show the reasons that can justify the conclusion by Farrell. The conclusion of this paper leads to establish a close relationship between Virgil’s academic prestige in the 20th century and the rise of certain and concurring currents of literary criticism.
