%X The Cabo Mondego section situated on theAtlantic coast, 160 km north of Lisbon, presents characteristicsof a good boundary stratotype section (G.S.S.P.).The outcrop is easily accessible and well exposed near thesea where the erosion process is continuous. The sectionshows a thick succession of clay limestones with a regular sedimentationand belongs to a sedimenrary basin whose palaeogeographyis already well established.The variety and abundance of cephalopods provide goodcorrelation between the submediterranean and the subborealprovinces.This section has already been considered during the discussionon the definition of the boundary stage (Orsay meeting,1970).
