AB In this work, we aim to study the different narrative and stylistic strategies on three Brazilian contemporary writers who fictionalize the economic, social and personal dificulties suffered by the residents of São Paulo's extensive periphery: in Eles eram muitos cavalos, Luiz Ruffato depicts a complex and pessimistic world that alludes to a broken society lacking in values. In Subúrbio, Fernando Bonassi focuses on the lack of communication and solidarity through the story of an elderly couple that degenerates in violence and pedophilia. Finally, in Ninguém é inocente em São Paulo, Ferréz takes us to the favela world from the inside, denouncing a society that sistematically exploits and criminalizes the poor.
