AB RESUMEN: La «Formula uitae honestae» de Martín de Braga tuvo una tradición manuscrita muy amplia a lo largo de todo el territorio europeo y cuenta con varias traducciones a lenguas vernáculas. Entre ellas se encuentra la realizada por Alfonso de Cartagena al castellano en el siglo XV, la cual deriva de la versión de la obra transmitida con el título «De quattuor uirtutibus» y adscrita de manera errónea a Séneca, cuya transmisión fue extensa a partir del siglo XII, especialmente durante los siglos XIV y XV. Este trabajo presenta un análisis textual de los manuscritos del siglo XIV conservados en bibliotecas españolas y francesas que, junto con el estudio de las misceláneas que contienen y su formato, pretende dar cuenta de la importancia de estos testimonios en la recepción de la obra latina y por lo tanto en el modelo que pudo conocer Alfonso de Cartagena para realizar su traducción, titulada «Libro de las cuatro virtudes» e incluida entre los conocidos como «Tratados de Séneca».
AB ABSTRACT: The «Formula uitae honestae» by Martín de Braga had a very extensive manuscript tradition throughout the whole European territory and has several translations into vernacular languages. One such a translation is the Spanish one made by Alfonso de Cartagena in the fifteenth century, which derives from the version of the work that bore the title «De quattuor uirtutibus» and was wrongly assigned to Seneca, which was transmitted extensively from the twelfth century onwards, and especially during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. This paper presents a textual analysis of the fourteenth-century manuscripts preserved in Spanish and French libraries and a study of the miscellanies they contain and their format, which seek to account for the importance of these testimonies for the reception of the Latin work and therefore for the model that Alfonso de Cartagena could use for his translation, which is entitled «Libro de las cuatro virtudes» and included among the texts known as the «Tratados de Séneca».
