%X O Conselho Internacional de Arquivos (CIA) é uma organização internacional que tem como missão difundir orientações de boas práticas à gestão de arquivos, seja por meio de eventos científicos, materiais educativos, sistemas de informação, entre outros. No prisma da descrição da informação, o CIA disponibilizou no ano de 2007 o ICA-AtoM (International Council on Archives – Access to Memory), que se traduz num software de código aberto - construído de forma a respeitar as Normas Internacionais de Descrição Arquivística como ISDIAH, ISAAR(CPF), ISDF e ISAD(G) - com vista à descrição arquivística multilingue capaz de suportar múltiplos repositórios integrados. Enquanto aplicação normativa e sem custos financeiros, o AtoM (que perdeu o prefixo "ICA" nas suas aplicações mais atuais) vem sendo utilizado por diversas instituições arquivísticas mundiais, assim como é o caso da Fundação Marques da Silva (FIMS). Nesse contexto, o objetivo deste artigo é o de caracterizar as ações empreendidas para a descrição e difusão da documentação do acervo da Fundação Marques da Silva no AtoM. A metodologia empregue foi dividida em duas fases: a caraterização da FIMS e dos seus sistemas de informação e a descrição analítica das etapas de tratamento, preparação e inserção dos documentos fotográficos e da meta-informação no software em análise. Os resultados da pesquisa exprimem as facilidades e os benefícios da adoção do AtoM pela Fundação Marques da Silva numa dupla vertente: por um lado, o auxílio às atividades desenvolvidas pelos profissionais da informação, uma vez que a aplicação é facilmente utilizada e garante a normalização descritiva dos documentos conforme os preceitos arquivísticos. Por outro lado, os utilizadores do acervo terão acesso aos documentos apresentados e caracterizados de forma eficaz em ambiente Web.
%X The International Council on Archives (ICA) is an international organization that has as a mission the spreading of good practice orientations regarding archives management, by means of scientific events, educational materials, and information systems, among others. As far as the information description is concerned the ICA made the ICA-AtoM (International Council on Archives – Access to Memory) available in 2007, which is basically an open source software – built in a way that respects the International Standards of Archival Description such as ISDIAH, ISAAR(CPF), ISDF e ISAD(G) – aiming at a multilingual archival description able to bear multiple integrated repositories. As a regulatory application without financial costs, the AtoM (that lost the prefix "ICA" in its current applications) has been used by several worldwide institutional archives, as is the case of the Fundação Marques da Silva (FIMS). In this context, the goal of this article is to characterize the actions employed in the description and diffusion of the documents belonging to the collection of the Fundação Marques da Silva within AtoM. The methodology applied was divided in two stages: the characterization of FIMS and of its information systems and the analytical description of the treatment, preparation and insertion steps of the photograph documents and of the meta-information in the software under analysis. The results of the research express the facilities and benefits of the adoption of AtoM by the Fundação Marques da Silva: on the one hand, it supported the activities developed by the professionals of information, of the description of documents since the application is easily used and it ensures the normalization according to archival rules. On the other hand, the collection users will have access to the documents, which are presented and characterized in an efficient manner in a Web environment.
