RT Journal Article T1 Pliensbachian calcareous nannofossils of the Santotis section (Basque-Cantabrian Basin, N Spain). A1 Fraguas Herráez, Ángela Raquel A1 Comas Rengifo, María José A1 Perilli, Nicola AB The target of this paper is to study the succession ofthe Pliensbachian calcareous nannofossil assemblages recoveredfrom the Santotis section (Northern Spain) in order to calibratethe biohorizons against the ammonite zones. In this section, onehundred nineteen marly and carbonate-dominated levels havebeen recognized and forty-one of them have been sampled. Thesemiquantitative analysis has been carried out on smear slidesand reveals that the majority of the assemblages show a badto moderate degree of preservation and the species abundancevaries from rare to frequent. In the studied section, the mostrelevant Pliensbachian composition changes of the assemblagesare the first appearances of the genera Similiscutum (JamesoniZone) and Lotharingius (Stokesi Zone). The assemblagesfurther change due to the appearance of the species belongingto the genus Biscutum. The succession of the assemblageshave allowed the identification of two main events, the FOsof Similiscutum cruciulus (Jamesoni Zone) and Lotharingiushauffii (Stokesi Zone) as well as four secondary events, the FOsof Biscutum novum (Davoei Zone), Biscutum grandis (StokesiZone), Biscutum finchii (Stokesi Zone) and Lotharingius barozii(Stokesi Zone). Assemblages and biohorizons have allowed theidentification of the upper part of the NJ3 Crepidolithus crassusZone, the complete NJ4 Similiscutum cruciulus Zone and thealmost complete NJ5 Lotharingius hauffii Zone.
