RT Journal Article T1 SHRIMP U–Pb zircon dating of anatexis in high-grade migmatitecomplexes of Central Spain: implications in the Hercynianevolution of Central Iberia A1 Castiñeiras García, Pedro A1 Villaseca González, Carlos A1 Barbero González, Luis C. A1 Martín Romera, Cristina AB U–Pb SHRIMP ages obtained in zirconsfrom the Sotosalbos and Toledo anatectic complexesin Central Spain give new constraints to the evolutionof the inner part of the Hercynian Iberian belt. Pre-Hercynian ages in zircons from the Sotosalbos complex(~464 Ma) are well preserved and reveal that anage diversity of the Lower Paleozoic magmatism inthe area exists, as previous data on westernmost orthogneissesyield significant older ages. Zircon ages inthe pelite-derived granites from the Toledo complexalso show an important Neoproterozoic age componentwhich points to a metasedimentary protolithdeposited maximally 560 Ma ago. Younger zirconpopulations in both complexes at ~330 Ma in theSotosalbos region and ~317 Ma in the Toledo complexindicate an important diachronism between theanatectic processes in both areas but also that theseprocesses are mainly unrelated to the generation ofthe later Hercynian granite batholith of CentralSpain, which could be of deeper crustal derivation. Inaddition, as migmatization occurred late in themetamorphic cycle, after peak conditions were attained, the age of anatexis is younger than the age ofthe main Hercynian metamorphic event, which still isnot well constrained.
