HH signaling plays a crucial role in myelination and oligodendrocyte lineage development. SHH regulates the specification, proliferation, and migration of oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs), being essential for myelin production and remyelination. The balance of SHH/SMO signaling affects both oligodendrocyte differentiation and demyelinating disease progression. Understanding this pathway may open new therapeutic strategies for multiple sclerosis and leukodystrophies. %~
