AB Se documenta en fuentes primarias la hasta ahora casi desconocida trayectoria vital y creativa del escultor caraqueño Rafael de la Cova hasta 1888. De su producción plástica se certifican sus trabajos mayores (tres monumentos públicos a la gloria del Libertador en Caracas, Nueva York y Ciudad Bolívar, y dos grandes grupos alegóricos para el Teatro Guzmán Blanco, actual Teatro Municipal), así como otras piezas menores en el campo del retrato y la decoración. De su labor docente se señala su iniciativa de crear en Caracas una academia privada de dibujo («Círculo Artístico»), y su ingreso final como profesor de escultura en la Academia de Bellas Artes.This paper sustains through first-hand sources the hitherto almost unknown vital and creative path of the Caracas-born sculptor, Rafael de la Cova up to 1888. From his plastic production are known his major works (three public monuments consecrated to the glory of the Liberator in Caracas, New York and Ciudad Bolívar, and two big allegorical groups at the “Guzmán Blanco” Theatre, nowadays “Municipal Theatre”), so as other minor pieces in the field of portrait and decoration. His educative activity is expressed by the initiative to create a prívate academy of drawing (“Círculo Artístico”) and his admission as a professor of sculpture at Academia de Bellas Artes.
