AB La teoría de la contemplación estética es una de las claves hermenéuticas desde las que abordar el  libro de ejercicios espirituales de Valle-Inclán La lámpara maravillosa, así como otros textos surgidos en la década de 1907 a 1917, en particular La media noche. Visión estelar de un  momento de guerra. En este artículo estudiaremos, en primer lugar, la recepción, a principios del siglo XIX, de dos textos de la tradición contemplativa hispánica, en el contexto de la “vasta  gnosis” finisecular y de la crisis existencial y literaria que atraviesa el autor en ese periodo. A  continuación, veremos su presencia en múltiples aspectos de La lámpara maravillosa: temas y motivos recurrentes como la oposición entre meditación y contemplación, la necesidad de la experiencia, la Nada como camino, el centro del alma o la contemplación de la belleza; imágenes  estructurantes y otra simbología de la contemplación.
AB The theory of aesthetic contemplation is a hermeneutic key to understanding Valle-Inclán’s book  of spiritual exercises, La lámpara maravillosa, and other texts which appeared in the period 1907 to 1917, in particular La media noche. Visión estelar de un momento de Guerra. In this article, first of all, the reception at the beginning of twentieth century of two texts from the mystical tradition of contemplation will be analysed: Miguel de Molinos’ Guía spiritual and Ibn Tufayl’s Philosophus Autodidactus, in the context of fin-de-siècle “vast European gnosis”. This was a decade of transition in which Valle-Inclán experienced a grave existential and literary crisis. Secondly, some aspects of contemplation will be studied: recurring themes and motifs such as the opposition between meditation and contemplation, the need for experience, the path of  nothingness, the centre of the soul and aesthetic contemplation, structuring images and other contemplation symbols.
