RT Journal Article T1 Representación 3D: un ejemplo en la Unidad SurPirenaica Central A1 Élez Villar, Javier AB An example from the Southern flank of the Tremp syncline (South Central Pyrenean Unit) is modelled here with two different reconstruction methods (Non Uniform Rational Beta Splines or NURBS and Triangulated Irregular Networks or TINs), allowing to illustrate and compare them. TIN-based reconstructions permits the efficient management of an important amount of topographic information to create Digital Elevation Models. Generic GIS based software used to construct this kind of models allows to drape different geological cartography obtaining an excellent visual effect, strengthen regional aspects. On the other hand, NURBS-based models permit the construction of very complex morphologies due to its intrinsic facility of construction and edition. This technique generate visual and precise models from scarce data and its very valuable to reconstruct complex structures or details (typically subsurface structures); in contrast it needs more hardware resources, comparing with those of TINs. Anyway, both kinds of methods are adequate for geological reconstructions using non specific/exclusive, obviously less expensive software. PB Sociedad Geológica de España.
