%X A giant colonic diverticulum (GCD) is a rare manifestiation of  colonic diverticular disease. It is more often located in the sig moid colon. It is defined by a colonic diverticulum greater than  4 cm in diameter (medium size 4–9 cm) and is usually located at  the anti-mesenteric border of the sigmoid colon [2]. It was first described in 1946, although <200 cases are reported in the lit erature, mostly as case reports. While GCD pathophysiology remains unclear, the ‘ball-valve’ theory is the most accepted. GCD should be managed with surgical excision.
