AB Mi contribución al III Coloquio Internacional sobre los Elementos de la Naturaleza (centrado en esta ocasión sobre el Fuego), que tuvo lugar en Granada en 1995, fue este ensayo sobre las variantes y el simbolismo del personaje ritual del Judas, quien suele terminar pasto de las llamas. A partir de los estudios de Frazer, Caro Baroja, Propp y Bajtin, traté de interpretar los significados del universo semántico configurado por el conjunto diacrónico de leyendas, imágenes y acciones asociadas con el traidor apóstol de Cristo, tanto en España e hispanoamérica como en otras culturas; en rituales festivos de Año Nuevo, Carnaval y Sábado Santo. El resultado es un sorprendente sistema simbólico.
AB My contribution to the III International Colloquium on the Elements of Nature (centered on this occasion on Fire), which took place in Granada in 1995, was this essay on the variants and symbolism of the ritual character of Judas, who usually ends up burned by fire. Based on the studies of Frazer, Caro Baroja, Propp and Bajtin, I tried to interpret the meanings of the semantic universe configured by the diachronic set of legends, images and actions associated with Christ's Apostle traitor Judas, both in Spain and Latin America, and in other cultures; in New Year's festive rituals, carnival and Holy Saturday. The result is a surprising symbolic system.
