RT Journal Article T1 The Load-Bearing Mechanism of Rock-Socketed Piles Considering Rock Fragmentation A1 Zhao, Xiaolin A1 Shen, Yupeng A1 Melentijevic Devetakovic, Svetlana A1 Sun, Zengkui A1 Wang, Kaiyuan A1 Xu, Jincui A1 Li, Zhiqiang AB Based on the random distribution patterns of rock fragmentation (RF), a concrete–rock shear model (CRSM) considering RF was developed through the application of statistical theory. The significance and determination methods of the model parameters were elucidated. A comparison of the results based on the CRSM with and without consideration of RF with the experimental results from the concrete–rock shear test was performed, revealing a closer alignment for the model considering RF. This model effectively characterizes the yield deformation phase and the strain softening phase in the concrete–rock shear process. By utilizing load transfer theory and the CRSM considering RF, a differential equation of load transfer for rock-socketed piles (RSPs) considering RF was formulated by applying the Runge‒Kutta method. Considering RF, the pile top load versus settlement curves and the pile–rock relative displacement (sp‒r) versus pile side friction (τp‒r) curves exhibited a closer alignment with the results of full‒scale static load tests. The linear elastic deformation phase and the yield deformation phase of the sp‒r versus τp‒r curves were accurately characterized. In addition, a sensitivity study of the parameters was undertaken to analyse their effects on the concrete–rock shear mechanism and the load-bearing mechanism of RSPs.
