RT Book, Section T1 Constituting connections and rural revitalization in ‘the comarca de Verín’, Galicia (Spain) A1 Domínguez García, María Dolores A1 Swagemakers, Paul A1 Wiskerke, Johannes A1 Simón Fernández, Xavier A2 McDonagh, John A2 Birte, Nienaber A2 Woods, Michael AB This chapter assesses the performance of the yet fragile compilation of connections between endogenous knowledge, natural resource management and new business models. This compilation has been constituted in the Comarca de Verín (Galicia, Spain) by applying a relational approach to understanding the reconstitution of rural places under globalization. The chapter examines connections between the pillars of regional learning. It focuses on the endogenous development potential, the formal interfaces between the public administration, the knowledge infrastructure and Grassroots Development Initiatives (GDI). It also discusses how these contribute to a model of rural revitalization based on re-localization of networks and resources, niche innovation and conservation. Supportive policies implemented via the Rural Development Group (RDG), Designation of Origin (POD) and Oficinas Agrarias Comarcales (OAC) also have had a limited impact on strengthening the GDIs in relation to the maintenance and utilization of the traditional landscape.
