T2 Divulgation and teaching of soil science: the role ofinformation technologies and social networks in Internet

AB Las Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación (TIC) representan un reto para la docencia de las ciencias y la diseminación científica de los resultados, simultáneamente. Se trata de una realidad incuestionable. Permanecer al margen de esta revolución sería un gran error. Del mismo modo, los jóvenes hacen un uso intensivo de las mismas, por lo que si se desea divulgar o enseñar, es imperativo entender sus hábitos. En el presente escrito, se describen las principales ventajas de las TIC, utilizando para ello la experiencia adquirida durante cinco años en un blog o bitácora de suelos. No obstante, también se tratan otros aspectos que conciernen tanto a la docencia como al futuro de la difusión de los resultados científicos (revistas, libros, etc.).
AB The information and communication technologies (ICT) simultaneously represent both a challenge and an opportunity for teaching science and widely disseminatingscientific results and interpretations. The existence of ICT is well-established and increasing rapidly. It would be unfortunate if soil scientists and academicians ignored ICT’s potential positive effects. Young people readily adopt ICT which creates the opportunity to teach science and learn if we can understand the habits of these “digital natives.” In this paper, we describe the main advantages of ICT for teaching and distributing scientific information based on five years of experience with the Internet web log or “blog” dedicated to Soil Science called “An Invisible Universe Under Our Feet.” We also discuss additional observations related to both science teaching and the future of disseminating scientific highlights using media such as magazines andbooks in open access.
