RT Journal Article T1 General transfer function of a compound optical system under linearity conditions in the Fresnel regime A1 Lakshminarayanan, Vasudevan A1 Calvo Padilla, María Luisa AB A systematic procedure for calculating the general transfer function of a cascaded linear optical system working under the Fresnel regime is presented. The validity of neglecting the quadratic phase factors is also discussed. For the case of inhomogeneous optical devices with Gaussian profiles, explicit expressions for the transfer functions are calculated through specific Gaussian integrals.
