AB Background:The surgical approach for the treatment of a left ventricular assist device with severe infection may be controversial.Material & Methods:We present the case of a patient implanted with a HeartWare™HVAD as a bridge to transplant and chronic infection of the device by Pseudomonas who underwent a conservative partial treatment of the driveline tunnel and subsequently a heart transplantation and device removal were done.Conclusions:The two‐step simplified approach allowed the patient to betransplanted in a short period of time, with the abdominal wall healed and almost two‐thirds of the driveline subcutaneous tunnel sterilized.
AB El abordaje quirúrgico para el tratamiento de un dispositivo de asistencia ventricular izquierda con infección grave puede ser controvertido. Presentamos el caso de un paciente al que se le implantó un HVAD HeartWare™ como puente al trasplante e infección crónica del dispositivo por Pseudomonas al que se le realizó un tratamiento conservador parcial del túnel del cable percutáneo y posteriormente se realizó un trasplante cardíaco y la retirada del dispositivo.El abordaje simplificado en dos tiempos permitió que el paciente fuera trasplantado en un corto período de tiempo, con la pared abdominal cicatrizada y casi dos tercios del túnel subcutáneo del cable percutáneo esterilizados.
