T1 La tradición de la literatura picaresca y la trasformación del héroe en la obra de Nikos Kazantzakis : de la Odisea a Vida y hechos de Alexis Zorba. Un estudio comparativo

AB El objetivo fundamental de este estudio es la identificación y valoración de los elementos concretos –temáticos, estructurales y expresivos– existentes en la composición de dos obras del escritor griego Nikos Kazantzakis, la Odisea (1938) y Vida y hechos de Alexis Zorba (1941-1943, 1946), que permiten asociarlas o incorporarlas a la rica tradición de la literatura picaresca y en qué medida. Para este análisis comparativo las referencias básicas son las obras fundacionales de la novela picaresca, española y europea, de los siglos XVI y XVII, pero se tienen en cuenta otros ejemplos posteriores y contemporáneos de esta misma tradición. Para tal análisis hacemos uso oportuno de los recursos que nos proporcionan las investigaciones que entendemos más fiables sobre las características y la evolución del género picaresco. Se trata de un estudio del que no tenemos noticia de que se haya realizado con la amplitud y el detenimiento que merecen tanto una novela de tan considerable difusión como un poema cuyas proporciones (33.333 versos) exigen una lectura más bien esforzada, pero que siempre aporta descubrimientos sorprendentes...
AB The basic purpose of this study is to identify and evaluate concrete elements –thematic, structural and expressive– existing in the composition of two of the works of the Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis: Odyssey (1938) and Life and adventures of Alexis Zorba (1941-1943, 1946; a probably more appropriate title in English is under discussion), which allow their association or incorporation into the rich tradition of picaresque literature and to what extent. For this comparative analysis, the references are based on the foundational examples of the Spanish and European picaresque novel of the sixteen and seventeen centuries, but other posterior and contemporary instances of this tradition are taken into account. Appropriate use is made of the resources provided by the most trustworthy research regarding the characteristics and the evolution of the picaresque genre. To the best of our knowledge, excepting rare allusions made by critics, this is a study that has never been done with the amplitude and detail which a novel of such considerable diffusion merits. It is the same situation with a poem whose proportions make its readability certainly difficult (33.333 verses), but which always contributes surprising discoveries...
