AB En este capítulo se discuten los principales retos teóricos y metodológicos de la investigación en sociopragmática histórica, esto es, el estudio, a lo largo de la historia, del uso del lenguaje en las interacciones sociales, cuyo objetivo final es la reconstrucción, en la medida en que lo permitan los datos accesibles, de la competencia pragmática de los hablantes de épocas pasadas. Por una parte, se analizan los problemas de identificación y descripción de las construcciones lingüísticas empleadas en la realización de actos de habla y los cambios que se han producido a lo largo de la historia; por otra, la necesidad de tener en cuenta las transformaciones históricas de la concepción de las relaciones sociales y las normas socioculturales para comprender adecuadamente cómo influye en cada época el contexto en la selección de estrategias y recursos lingüísticos para la gestión de las imágenes y la cortesía.
AB This chapter discusses the main theoretical and methodological challenges of research in historical sociopragmatics, that is, the study, throughout history, of the use of language in social interactions, whose ultimate goal is the reconstruction, as far as accessible data allow, of the pragmatic competence of speakers in past times. On the one hand, we analyze the problems of identification and description of the linguistic constructions used in the performance of speech acts and the changes that have occurred throughout history; on the other hand, it is claimed the need to take into account the historical transformations in the conception of social relations and socio-cultural norms in order to adequately understand how the context influences the selection of strategies and linguistic resources for facework and politeness  in each period.
