AB This doctoral dissertation is divided into three chapters. All of them study topics related to Political Economy (i.e., the methodology of Economics applied to the analysis of political behavior and institutions) and analyze the relations that exist between institutions and economic and political outcomes. AB Esta tesis doctoral se divide en cuatro capítulos. Todos abordan temas relacionados con la Economía Política (es decir, la metodología de la Economía aplicada al análisis del comportamiento y las instituciones políticas) y analizan las relaciones entre las instituciones y los resultados económicos y políticos. En todo caso, cada capítulo tiene un enfoque distinto, utiliza datos diferentes y se fundamenta en una pregunta teórica específica.
