%X RESUMEN: Analizamos en este trabajo la relación entre la novela «Rayuela» de Julio Cortázar y las «Noches áticas» de Aulo Gelio. Partimos del hecho de que el capítulo 148 de «Rayuela» reproduce una versión hispana de Gell., V, 7, un texto relativo a la supuesta etimología de la palabra latina «persona» (‘máscara’) a partir del verbo «personare» (‘hacer resonar’). Analizamos la compleja naturaleza de esta cita y su posible significado, así como los correlatos estructurales entre ambas obras. Finalmente, proponemos un desconocido e imprevisto correlato.
%X ABSTRACT: In this paper we analyze the relationship between the novel “Rayuela” of Julio Cortázar and “Attic Nights” of Aulus Gellius. First of all, in chapter 148 of “Rayuela” we find a quotation of Gell., V, 7, a text related to the supposed etymology of the Latin word “persona” (“mask”) from the verb “personare” (“to make resonate”). We analyze the complex nature of this mention and its possible meaning, as well as the structural correlations between both works. Finally, we propose an unknown and unforeseen correlation.
