AB The comparison between the evolution of the US federal system and the EU integration process shows significant similarities and differences concerning important issues such as the distribution of competences between the central power and the States, and the instruments available to coordinate the legal orders involved. The study focuses especially on the requirements related to the existence of a united market and its implications for the establishment of uniform rules concerning commercial matters. --- La comparación entre la evolución del sistema federal de EEUU y el desarrollo de la UE muestras semejanzas e importantes contrastes en lo relativo tanto a la distribución de competencias entre el poder central y los Estados como en los mecanismos de relación y coordinación entre los ordenamientos implicados. Especial atención reciben las cuestiones relativas al logro de la unidad de mercado y el establecimiento de normas uniformes en el ámbito comercial.
