T1 Scientiarum libertas perfundet omnia luce: the philosophy of Krause and the krausist project of the Scientific Society at the origins of academic freedom in Spain

AB Este artículo presenta la idea de Krause de constituir una «Alianza de la Ciencia», que desarrollaría su discípulo Ahrens y sería adoptada por los krausistas españoles para combatir las injerencias del Estado y la Iglesia en la instrucción pública. Con ella pretendieron a partir de 1868 que la Universidad de Madrid fuese el germen de una «Sociedad Científica». Además, se expone la gestación y el sentido del lema de la actual Universidad Complutense de Madrid, «libertas perfundet omnia luce», ideado por los catedráticos krausistas.
AB This article presents Krause’s idea of establishing an “Alliance of Science”, which was developed by  his  disciple  Ahrens  and  adopted  by  the  Spanish  Krausists  to  combat  the  interference  of  the  State  and  the Church in public education from 1857 onwards. After the Revolution of 1868, they also intended for the University  of  Madrid  to  become  the  seed  for  the  creation  of  a  "Scientific  Society".  The  Krausists  defended  scientific freedom, which they distinguished from “educational freedom”, and which was the precedent for “academic  freedom”.  In  addition,  the  article  discusses  the  development  and  meaning  of  the  motto  of  the  current Complutense University of Madrid, ‘libertas perfundet omnia luce’, devised by Krausist professors.
