AB En este artículo veremos a través de las acuñaciones monetarias de Napoleón y sus familiares cómo la llegada al poder en Francia del general Bonaparte (golpe de Brumario de 1799) con el título de cónsul mar-ca un punto de inflexión en la historia de Europa. Desde ese momento hasirá acumulando poder hasta convertirse en un monarca con poderes prácticamente absolutos y su política exterior, avalada por sus victorias militares, le harán el árbitro de Europa, cuyas cambiará a voluntad, por una parte ampliando el territorio propio de Francia, hasta formar el llama-do Gran Imperio, y por otra colocando a sus familiares y colaboradores a la cabeza de viejos (Nápoles, España) o nuevos (Westphalia) estados, siempre satélites de Francia, cuyo objetivo era crear una Europa “confederal” dominada totalmente por Francia.
