%X RESUMEN: El artículo analiza los conflictos surgidos entre los consumidores y los suministradores de agua potable en Madrid en el primer tercio del s. XX. En este periodo la capital registró un importante incremento demográfico, al tiempo que la dotación de agua experimentó una mejora y ampliación progresiva para dar respuesta a la creciente demanda de líquido. La investigación aborda, en concreto, los conflictos surgidos a propósito del precio del agua, su calidad y potabilidad, y la dotación y cantidad disponibles. Estos conflictos no solo se plantea-ron entre las entidades suministradoras y los consumidores, sino también entre aquellas. El trabajo pretende contribuir a explicar  los  obstáculos  que  dificultaron  la  consecución  del suministro universal a domicilio en España, un objetivo que en este periodo se planteó como realista.
%X ABSTRACT: This  article  analyses  the  conflicts  that  arose  between consumers  and  suppliers  of  drinking  water  in  Madrid  in the first third of the 20th century. During this period, the city experienced a significant demographic increase, while the water supply was progressively improved and expanded to meet the growing demand for water. In particular, the research addresses the conflicts that arose over the price of water, its quality and potability, and the supply and quantity available. These conflicts arose not only between suppliers and consumers, but also between suppliers and consumers. The paper aims to contribute to explaining the obstacles that hindered the achievement of universal water supply at home in Spain, a goal that was considered realistic during this period.
