RT Book, Section T1 International organizations are more than states make of them A1 Dominguez, Roberto A1 Sanahuja Perales, José Antonio A2 Edgard, Alistair D. AB This chapter argues that the analysis of the impact of the recent wave of illiberal governments eroding the performance of IOs should be considered in a larger context. The administration of President Donald Trump (2017-21) was emblematic of the nativist and illiberal moment. Other like-minded governments preceded it, and others will follow the steps of undermining the work of IOs. While receding or eroded democracies (Brazil, Philippines, India, Hungary, and Poland) challenge globalization, their impact is contingent on the capacity and structure of IOs and the correlation of forces in the international order.
