AB Hoy día la percepción de los vándalos, un pueblo germánico de la Antigüedad que se asentó en territorio romano durante el Bajo Imperio, se concibe conjuntamente con el término «vandalismo», que denota violencia gratuita. No obstante, ese nombre no tiene su origen en la antigüedad sino en la Revolución Francesa. El propósito de estas páginas es matizar, desmitificar y esclarecer el pasado vándalo para separar su realidad de la imagen actual que se asocia con este término, claramente injusta para su recuerdo.
AB Nowadays, the perception of the Vandals, an ancient Germanic people who settled on Roman soil during the Late Empire, is conceived alongside the term «vandalism» that currently means arbitrary violence. Nevertheless, that noun did not originate in ancient times, but during French Revolution. The purpose of these pages is to qualify, demystify and elucidate the Vandals’ past to separate their reality from the present connotations associated with this term, which is clearly unfair to the Vandals’ memory.
