A partir del año 2008 la economía mundial entró en recesión económica,afectando esta especialmente a España. En este contexto se aprobó el Real Decreto-ley 16/2012, con el fin declarado de reducir el gasto público y mejorar la eficiencia en la sanidad. Since 2008 the world economy entered into an economic recession, affecting especially Spain. In this context, Royal Decree-law 16/2012 was approved, with the stated purpose of reducing public spending and improving the health system efficiency. This decree contained two very controversial measures: the limitation of health care to a part of the population (more precisely, immigrants without a residence permit) and the pharmaceutical co-payment.
