The analysis of the cross-reference census data with cadastres, taxpayers registers and land property applications allows to enquire into the impact that liberal policies entailed among them. This study asserts that far from being a homogeneous group, whose incorporation into the Republican society entailed the same vicissitudes, a great social, occupational and patrimonial heterogeneity was hiding under the term “indigenous”.
