This monographic work proposes a plural approach to the issue of the copy during the medieval period. Once we overcome the presumed dichotomy between the concepts of originality and copy, the versatile nature of this artistic phenomenon arises: as an element of learning, a resource for emulating well known artworks and authors, a tool for creating prototypes, or a way of publicizing the most outstanding works from a collection.
