Abordamos esta discusión en un primer apartado, valorando desde la perspectiva de democratización de la comunicación la propuesta llamada «educomunicación»; después analizamos la posibilidad que para innovar el conocimiento en ciencias sociales tiene el documental social, específicamente latinoamericano; la coyuntura de crisis de la educación universitaria española y la necesidad de dinamizar las CCSS, para acabar con discusión en torno a la potencialidad del documental social y político para reflexionar sobre la globalización. Presentando, para concluir, una propuesta para trabajar estos aspectos con la Red Eurolatinoamerica de Sensibilización social y Comunicación Ciudadana.The first section of the paper approaches the discussion by assessing from the communication democratization standpoint the proposal known as «educommunication»; we then analyze the possibilities offered by the social documentary, specifically in Latin America, in innovating expertise in social sciences; the paper then outlines the context of crisis in university education in Spain and the need to render social sciences more dynamic, and ends by discussing the potential of social and political documentaries to reflect on globalization. We finally present a proposal for further work on these aspects through the Latin American Network for Social Awareness and Citizens’ Communication.
