Se identifican tres grupos principales de niveles encajados a ambos lados del actual cauce. La agrupación más moderna se ubica en el centro del valle. Las terrazas septentrionales están constituidas por cuatro escalones fundamentales. La asociación meridional esta formada por los replanos mas altos y peor conservados cuyo nivel superior esta situado a 130 m sobre el cauce. En ningún caso existen referencias cronológicas fiables. La secuencia edáfica desarrollada sobre estas terrazas se ha determinado mediante el estudio de 10 perfiles de suelos, que muestran una evolución progresiva en su desarrollo por la distinta naturaleza de los procesos edáficos. Los fenómenos de descarbonatación-carbonatación secundaria, argilización y rubefacción son función de su posición topográfica y están relacionados con la evolución morfodinámica del valle. Su comparación con las secuencias de otros ríos del entorno mediterraneo ibérico indica una fuerte dependencia del área fuente y del tiempo. The terrace system of the Guadalquivir River, in its first approach to the border of the Southern Spanish Meseta, occupies a rectangular area which is lengthened along one of the main structural axes of this border. Three principal groups of incised levels are identified at both sides of the valley. The youngest group is located at the centre of the valley. Northern terraces display four main steps, whereas the southern ones have the higher est and worst preserved plains whose uppermost level is located 130 m above the river. None of these groups have reliable chronological references. The edaphic sequence has been determined using ten soil profiles developed on these terraces. The soil profiles display a progressive evolution in their development related to the different nature of their edaphic processes. The decarbonation, secondary carbonation, argilization and reddening are linked to its topographical position and to the morphodynamic evolution ofr the valley.
