El consumo de inhibidores de la bomba de protones se ha incrementado en los últimos 10 años un 300%, y a la vez se han descubierto sus efectos adversos a largo plazo. Teniendo en cuenta que existe una elevada tasa de automedicación y que además la gran mayoría de la población mayor de 65 años toma omeprazol de forma diaria y crónica, resultan necesarios estudios sobre el uso de este fármaco. Este estudio analiza, en forma de encuestas y su posterior análisis, el patrón de consumo de omeprazol. Se realizó en oficina de farmacia, y pretende hacer llegar a la población, a través del farmacéutico, el problema de la automedicación y el abuso de omeprazol. Además, teniendo en cuenta la patología de cada paciente, se proponen alternativas terapéuticas.The consumption of proton pump inhibitors has been increased 300 per cent for the last 10 years, and at the same time its adverse effects in the long term have been discovered. Taking into account the fact that there is a high rate of self-medication and that most of the people over 65 years old take omeprazole in a daily and chronic way, field studies about the use of this medicine are necessary. This study analyzes, in the form of surveys and their later analysis, the standard of consumption of omeprazole. It was carried out at a chemist's, and it is hoped that this work will help people be awared, through the chemist, of the problem of selfmedication and the abuse of omeprazole. Moreover, bearing in mind the pathology of every patient, therapeutic alternatives are suggested.
