The aim of this systematic review is to detect the barriers and facilitators for the retention and participation of university students with social, economic, and/or cultural disadvantage. The search conducted of the Scopus and Web of Science databases yielded 31 articles (between 2015-2020) that met the inclusion criteria. Findings indicate a notable coincidence between the barriers and facilitators: economic, cultural, linguistic, family and motivation. These data will help universities design actions that make it easier for all students to attend and participate fully in university life under conditions of equality.Uno de los principales retos que siguen teniendo las universidades es conseguir la inclusión en todos sus ámbitos, ya que los principales avances conseguidos hasta ahora han sido en materia de acceso. El objetivo de esta revisión sistemática es detectar las barreras y facilitadores para la retención y participación de los estudiantes universitarios con desventaja social, económica y/o cultural. La búsqueda realizada en las bases de datos Scopus y Web of Science arrojó 31 artículos (entre 2015-2020) que cumplían los criterios de inclusión. Los resultados indican una notable coincidencia entre las barreras y los facilitadores: económicos, culturales, lingüísticos, familiares y de motivación.
