Los museos de historia natural han vivido una gran transformación a lo largo de su historia, consolidándose hoy en día como verdaderos centros de cimentación social. El caso concreto del Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales de Madrid no ha sido una excepción. A continuación, se pretende llegar a dicha idea, analizando una época clave de este Museo, la Posguerra Española, y las consecuencias que esta ha podido ocasionar. Se trató de una época en la que acontecieron grandes pérdidas de material, cambios adminsitrativos, depuraciones de personal y, en definitiva, una sensación generalizada de desinterés y vorágine El inicio de esta etapa de oscuridad se alejó del ambiente modernizador que se venía fraguando durante la Edad de Plata y, en definitva, paralizó rotundamente la actividad científica y museográfica de la institución.Natural history museums have undergone a great transformation throughout their history, consolidating today as true centers of social foundation. The specific case of the National Museum of Natural Sciences in Madrid has not been an exception. Next, it is intended to arrive at this idea, analyzing a key period of this Museum, the Spanish PostWar period, and the consequences that this could have caused. It was a time in which there were great losses of material, administrative changes, personnel purges and,
ultimately, a generalized sense of disinterest and vortex. The beginning of this stage of darkness moved away from the modernizing environment that had been forging during
the Silver Age and, in short, completely paralyzed the scientific and museum activity of the institution.
