More specifically, we model the epidemic by a continuous-time Markov chain and we develop efficient computational procedures for the distribution of the duration of an outbreak. We also study the evolution of the epidemic before its extinction using the ratio-of-expectations (RE) distribution for the number of individuals in the various classes of the model. The obtained results are illustrated by numerical examples including an application to an outbreak of Marburg hemorrhagic feverengAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 InternationalThe stochastic SEIR model before extinction: computational approachesjournal articlehttps://doi.org/10.1016/j.amc.2015.05.141https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0096300315007729?via%3Dihubopen access519.22-76616-036.22519.217519.216Stochastic SEIR epidemic modelExtinction timeRatio-of-expectations distributionProcesos estocásticosEnfermedades infecciosas3212 Salud Publica2404.01 Bioestadística1208.06 Procesos de Markov3202 Epidemiología
