Se hace también una breve referencia histórica anterior al siglo XX para que el lector conozca plenamente cómo ha sido utilizado este medio a lo largo dela historia. Para alcanzar el objetivo de conocer y evaluar el uso de este material, se han buscado a los artistas que están utilizando actualmente este material o lo han utilizado en algún momento de sus carreras artísticas. Tras localizarles, se ha procedido a estudiar sus obras para conocer siete aspectos concretos: su experiencia como artistas, razones de elegir la cera de abejas como medio, su técnica, su aprendizaje, su opinión acerca del uso de este material, su preocupación por la ecología y su inquietud por difundir los conocimientos y experiencia adquirida. El 40 % de los artistas que se presentan en esta tesis han rellenado un cuestionario consiguiendo así aportar a este estudio valiosos apéndices con los pensamientos y opiniones originales de los propios artistas. Se ha realizado una práctica artística en pintura encáustica empleando las diversas técnicas aprendidas a lo largo de la investigación. Los resultados obtenidos serán de gran utilidad para futuras investigaciones y para cualquier persona interesada en comenzar a utilizar este medio.This research aims to provide a clear look at the current use of beeswax in the arts. It also makes a brief historical reference prior to the 20th century to enable the reader to fully understand how this medium has been used throughout history. To fulfil the objective of understanding and assessing the use of this material, artists were sought out who are currently using this material or who have used it at any timein their artistic careers. After locating them, their works were studied to learn seven specific aspects: their experience as artists, reasons for choosing beeswax as a medium, their technique, how they learned it, their opinion on the use of this material, their concern for ecology and their interest in disseminating the knowledge and experience they have acquired. Forty percent of the artists presented in this thesis have completed a questionnaire, thus giving this study valuable appendices with the original thoughts and opinions of the artists themselves.
