At first, it analyses to what extent his approach to Latin American culture can be understood as a dialectical alternative to postcolonial and subaltern studies. Then, based on his analysis of the intertwining of artistic form and social reality, it focuses on how Schwarz reveals the significance of Machado de Assis’ late narrative, which goes far beyond the strictly local. Finally, it offers some insights into his understanding of the evolution of the peripheral ‘maladjustment’ in the recent evolution of global capitalism on the basis of Paulo Lins’ novel Cidade de Deus.spaAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/«Fuera de lugar»: Roberto Schwarz y la centralidad de la experiencia periférica"Misplaced': Roberto Schwarz and the Centrality of Peripheral Experiencejournal article1757-1960https://intellectdiscover.com/content/journals/10.1386/ejpc_00017_1open accessforma artística y sociedadteoría críticaMachado de AssissubalternidadRoberto Schwarzcritical theoryartistic form and societysubalternityDesarrollo económicoEstética (Filosofía)Investigación social7202.01 Estética5305.01 Sistemas Económicos Capitalistas
