Elimination of iron from kaolin using either a chemical or a biological method was the aim of this study. The chemical leaching of iron from kaolin was carried out using response surface methodology to optimize the reaction conditions. Time was found to be the most influential variable, although oxalic acid must be present to leach 32% of the iron. Biological leaching was also assayed for 14 days using a Bacillus strain. The results of bacterial leaching of iron from kaolin showed <1% iron elimination.engAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/Iron removal from kaolin waste dumps by chemical (oxalic and citric acids) and biological (bacillus strain) leachingjournal article1552-8367https://doi.org/10.1007/s42860-022-00192-7https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/clays-and-clay-minerals/article/iron-removal-from-kaolin-waste-dumps-by-chemical-oxalic-and-citric-acids-and-biological-bacillus-strain-leaching/DD11AE9D2639F4139C6F408CAC4D1B45#open access579.66577679.861546.72BacillusIron leachingKaolin wasteOxalic acidResponse surface methodologyMicrobiología (Biología)Bioquímica (Biología)Mineralogía (Química)2414 Microbiología2403 Bioquímica2506.11 Mineralogía2303 Química Inorgánica
