After considering briefl y the determining factors which led to the rise of that genre in late Antiquity, this paper focuses on the two more signifi cant representatives of the Christian centos in Latin and in Greek, i.e. Proba and Eudocia. Th e analysis of specifi c passages in both works (together with other extrinsic factors) leads us to consider that Eudocia probably knew Proba’s work and in fact the former imitated the latter in certain characteristics regarding general composition.
